Just had a great time decorating our KMLE turkey (camel turkey??) in the official “Carve-Off” at St. Vincent DePaul. This is my award certificate. I’ll try to post the picture of the finished bird, in case you didn’t see it on 12 News. Please come join us today (Stuesday, November 25) at Food City, Ray Road and Arizona Avenue, from 2 - 7 PM. 12 News meteorologist James Quinones and I are trying to collect the most turkeys at OUR live broadcast. If you call (602) 258-1212 to donate with your credit card , you can tell the operator that you’re voting for “Big Shoe” Stu and Jimmy Q. Want any other information? Click here.

As we mentioned on KMLE Country 108, when you shop for video games, there’s one factor you might not have thought about - how much electricity you’ll be using. It’s staggering that one console, if you leave it “on”, can suck as much energy in a year as two refrigerators. That’s not good. Here’s the report from Yahoo. Just curious, have you really noticed a spike in your APS or SRP bill after buying one of these consoles? Let us know.

Everytime we mention the visible passes of the International Space Station, we get lots of calls. It usually appears in the northwest sky and travels towards the southeast. The pass will last two to four minutes. Usually, by the time you can really see it, it’s almost overhead. With a telescope, or even strong binoculars, you should be able to make out some of the detail. But as long as you have a clear sky and a dark viewing area, you will see the ISS. It moves very quickly, in a straight arc across the sky, and the best clue that you’re looking at the right object is that it doesn’t blink. It’s really spectacular, and fun, and you’ll want to show it to everyone you know. For the future, you can get a pretty good idea when this happens again by going to this site.

If you’ve been a loyal KMLE Citizen for a few years, you will definitely remember my great friend and former on-air partner, HG Listiak. He was a decorated Navy vet (Vietnam), and would come to work every Veterans Day in his flight suit. It still fit pretty well, and I never saw a person prouder to wear that uniform. HG passed away suddenly in April 2004, but he left a treasure of spoken and written comments. One of our favorites is this tribute, broadcast Veterans Day 2003. It’s been five years, but wait ’til you hear how accurate and timely it still sounds: HG Veterans Day 11-11-2003
Now if you enjoyed that, please take a moment and visit HG’s World at www.hgsworld.com. You will be amazed at what HG’s beloved “Lady Di” (Diane) has posted for you over these past few years - audio, written commentary, photos of HG, and photos he took of the world as he saw it. And please leave a comment there or here if you wish. If you are a Veteran, THANK YOU for your service. - Stu

We had a huge pre-concert party, a real KMLE Carnival, to welcome Carrie Underwood’s Carnival Ride tour. Karen, Kim, Jimi, and Phillip spent some time visiting with the KMLEnation, and Kimberly reminded us how special Arizona is to her, and the group. Do you remember why? Take a listen: Little Big Town - November 7, 2008
Oh, and be sure to check the photo page here. Were you in the picture when we all posed with Little Big Town together?

We spoke to Brad Paisley on Thursday afternoon, November 6, and with a week to go before co-hosting the CMA Awards, he gave us his opinion about an act that should have joined him in the Entertainer of the Year category. Plus, how happy was he with his wife’s Redbook columns? Listen here: Brad talks with “Big Shoe Stu”

I am so excited about this Saturday morning. We’re going to be part of the biggest Walk to Cure Diabetes in the WORLD! It’s not too late to sign up for our “KMLE Big Shoe Crew”. All you do is click here, fill out a short registration, and then come find me Saturday morning. Ron Hoon (Fox 10) and I will be handling stage announcements from 8 AM - 9 AM, and then our team will meet by the scissor lift at the starting line. Derrick Hall, President of the Arizona Diamondbacks, and this year’s outstanding Corporate Walk Chairman, will help me give shout-outs to the teams walking through the starting arch. After a few minutes, I’ll climb down to join you and walk. The whole event will take a couple of hours on a beautiful Saturday morning (you can stay longer for the food and entertainment), and you will feel spectacular afterwards. We talked to Derrick Hall about his leadership role this year, and you may have heard some of our conversation on-the-air. Here’s the whole thing - including our question about Randy Johnson: Derrick Hall interview
