The Space Station goes round and round

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

Everytime we mention the visible passes of the International Space Station, we get lots of calls.  It usually appears in the northwest sky and travels towards the southeast.  The pass will last two to four minutes.  Usually, by the time you can really see it, it’s almost overhead.  With a telescope, or even strong binoculars, you should be able to make out some of the detail.  But as long as you have a clear sky and a dark viewing area, you will see the ISS.  It moves very quickly, in a straight arc across the sky, and the best clue that you’re looking at the right object is that it doesn’t blink.   It’s really spectacular, and fun, and you’ll want to show it to everyone you know.  For the future, you can get a pretty good idea when this happens again by going to this site.

Very special Veterans Day salute

HG and Stu (Phoenix Children’s Hospital 2003)If you’ve been a loyal KMLE Citizen for a few years, you will definitely remember my great friend and former on-air partner, HG Listiak.  He was a decorated Navy vet (Vietnam), and would come to work every Veterans Day in his flight suit.  It still fit pretty well, and I never saw a person prouder to wear that uniform.  HG passed away suddenly in April 2004, but he left a treasure of spoken and written comments.  One of our favorites is this tribute, broadcast Veterans Day 2003.  It’s been five years, but wait ’til you hear how accurate and timely it still sounds: HG Veterans Day 11-11-2003

Now if you enjoyed that, please take a moment and visit HG’s World at www.hgsworld.com.  You will be amazed at what HG’s beloved “Lady Di” (Diane) has posted for you over these past few years - audio, written commentary, photos of HG, and photos he took of the world as he saw it.  And please leave a comment there or here if you wish.  If you are a Veteran, THANK YOU for your service.  - Stu

Brad & “friends” do it again…and again…

Tuesday, October 21st, 2008

There are a lot of serious pranksters in country music.  Brooks and Dunn, Montgomery Gentry, Kenny Chesney - they’re all among the greatest.  But, it’s well understood that if you tour with Paisley, you’d better give as well as you take!  Maybe you remember the infamous Taylor Swift, Kellie Pickler, Jack Ingram stunt last year while Brad was singing “Ticks”.

There have been plenty of other great “gotchas” on tour with Paisley.  Check out Chuck Wicks, TARRED AND FEATHERED, getting some less-than-welcome news from Julianne Hough, October 18th in San Antonio:

But oh, loyal Citizens of the KMLEnation, it gets better.  This is the romantic touch that Jewel’s music set has been lacking:

So, who’s brave enough to take on the rigors of stardom?  Comments anyone?  Catch you on KMLE Country 108, this afternoon! - Stu   ROTFL

Dare you to watch this with dry eyes

Friday, September 19th, 2008

We heard about this a few days ago, but Gwen Foster just turned me on to the video…here’s the story:

» Wish Fullfillment: Columbia’s Montgomery Gentry met 10-year-old Chantz from Chandler, AZ through the Make-A-Wish Foundation during a tour stop in Atlanta. After meeting Chantz backstage, the duo then asked him to join them on stage at the end of the set. Adorned with Eddie Montgomery’s hat, Chantz (pictured) sang “My Town” to the crowd before posing for photographs and throwing high-fives.

AFI Night at the Movies, October 1

Wednesday, September 17th, 2008

This will probably sell out in five minutes, but here is the link for the American Film Institute Night At The Movies.  You can see which BIG stars are introducing their equally huge movies.  I just had to find out more, and now you can take a look too.  Let us know if you end up attending, OK? - Stu

 Here’s the link!

OK, this has nothing to do with KMLE Country 108, or country music, or anything really…

I am ROTFL (that would be “rolling on the floor laughing”) at something a good friend of mine showed me the other day.  As Bruce Miles wrote: “I don’t remember Joe Cocker singing these particular lyrics at Woodstock.”  If someone you know tells you they remember being there, they’re probably lying.  Of course if they were there, they know how to sing these words…I’m STILL laughing! - Stu

Even if you don’t know the name, you know the voice

Don LaFontaine, voice of movie trailers, dies

LOS ANGELES — Don LaFontaine, the man who popularized the now loved-catch phrase, “in a world where…” and lent his voice to thousands of movie trailers, has died. He was 68.

LaFontaine died Monday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center from complications in the treatment of an ongoing illness, said Vanessa Gilbert, his agent.

LaFontaine made more than 5,000 trailers in his 33-year career while working for the top studios and television networks.

A few years ago, somebody tipped me off to this video.  Don is the first passenger in the limo, but you should “stick it out” and get a look at the guys you hear every day in movie theatres, and on TV.  This is one of my favorite videos of all time. - Stu
